On Monday, Mayor Stimpson unveiled the Celebration Trail, a path that will steer visitors from the Mobile Cruise Terminal to Dauphin Street and the heart of downtown.
The trail leads cruisers under the overpass along the cobblestone streets by Fort Conde to the History Museum and Mardi Gras Park and finally to Royal and Dauphin Streets. The Mobile I-Team utilized innovative design to transform an uninviting space into a destination for travelers. The entrance of the trail is already complete and welcomes visitors with a beautification mural on the overpass that reads “Welcome to Mobile” on one side and “Born to Celebrate” on the other. Future pieces of the trail will also incorporate murals, landscaping and ultimately an archway at the entrance of Dauphin Street.
The Celebration Trail is one aspect of the Mayor’s Initiative on Tourism, an effort to tie together all of the wonderful arts, cultural and attraction amenities the City of Mobile has to offer to both our citizens and guests.
“It’s no secret that Carnival is bringing in thousands of new visitors to our City, and it’s our job to lure them into the heart of Mobile before they leave for their excursion,” said Mayor Stimpson. “I applaud the I-Team on their vision for this underutilized space and for realizing Mobile’s potential as a tourism destination.”
